Why EMS Doesn’t Work

Why EMS Doesn’t Work

EMS has been around for a few years now and has been gaining some traction in the fitness industry

EMS which stands for electro muscle stimulation is supposed to stimulate your muscles during or when not working out which is supposed to cause them to contract therefore causing lean tissue growth over time.

And for those of you that aren’t too sure what it is, they have these machines called electro muscle stimulator machines in physio or chiropractor offices. The ones they attach to areas of your body that they are rehabilitating or trying to stimulate.

The idea is to now take this concept and wear it as a suit while working out to further stimulate the body during your workout and cause more muscle gain over time.

Sounds great, doesn’t it?

But it's too bad it doesn’t exactly work this way.

The contraction the EMS suit sends out is not strong enough nor does it cause your muscle to contract when working out. This is great for therapy and helping to stimulate the muscle during physio and recovery but not ideal at all for physical activity.

And if you are stimulating your muscles during your weightlifting routine or even just in your regular workout session in general, then these stimulations from the EMS suit won’t do any more than what your body is already doing for you.

You can somewhat give a comparison to fat loss pills.

They don’t work.

For fat loss pills to have any effect at all you would have to already be in a deficit of calories to lose weight and only then will any fat loss pills have somewhat of an effect to help minorly increase the weight loss that your deficit is already causing. And this is the best-case scenario if you even have weight loss pills that have any sort of scientific value towards them which almost none of them do unless you go to a doctor and get them medicinally. This means those weight loss pills in those supplement stores are trash. They don’t work.

So, like I was saying EMS is kind of the same in some respect. Unless you are working out, it will do nothing for you. But even if you workout and wear an EMS suit and use it, the contraction it's causing and effect is so minimal it doesn’t make a difference.

The bottom line is if you are someone who is looking to always take a shortcut of some sort or think you are going to build muscle faster than others or find another way, you’re not.

The only way is to put in the time and effort. EMS sounds great and in theory, sounds like it can work but unfortunately it doesn’t. it would be great if it did but it's just not the case.
