There is a poem about choices I came across several years ago and recently came across again in a video I was watching.
It’s a pretty self-explanatory message, saying that we all have choices in life that we make which lead us to where we are whether that be good or bad.
Sometimes the choice might not be able to get us out of our current situation but making the right choice or the best possible choice at the time will determine if we get out of it or not.
I just thought I’d share it and let you guys decide for yourselves on what you think of the message and poem itself.
I know for me, falling into the hole is always going to come back to my own choices and what choice I make to get out of any situation or to keep excelling my life on the path I am building for myself.
“Autobiography in Five Short Chapters”
by Portia Nelson
I
I walk down the street.…
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost … I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.
II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place
but, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
III
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
V
I walk down another street.
