Carbs are not the enemy

Carbs are not the enemy

Time and time again people are saying how carbs are bad for you and how they are not needed.

This couldn’t be farther from the truth.

The idea that carbs are evil needs to really stop and further be explained because there are people who think carbs make you fat.

Its total calorie intake is what will make you fat, not carbs

If you do keto and it works for you that great.

If you are counting your macros and your carbohydrates are lower, then that’s great.

Anyone can do any diet or almost any eating habit and see results. But my point here in this post is to say that carbs are not bad for you.

They have such a bad omen on them because in the past so many years, there have been studies that have shown carbs to be linked to obesity, mainly sugar.

But the real issue is the calorie count that people intake, not the sugar.

It's not the sugar or carbs that make you get fat, it’s the number of calories in overall consumption that you take.

People need to get rid of the idea that some sugar in itself is bad for you. Sugar is a molecule that makes up larger chain carbohydrates and is consumed in food.

It processes the same way as any other macro and once used for its purposes, is stored as fat in the body just as protein and lipids (fats) do.

Are sugary drinks unhealthy? Sure, they can be. Are fast foods terrible for you? Yea they can be.

But if you eat stuff in moderation and stay within whatever caloric limit or maintenance you have then they aren’t bad for you.

The only times you shouldn’t be eating that stuff is if you are obese and overweight as you don’t want to further increase your visceral fat deposit or increase your cholesterol and further put your health at risk.

And of course, if you are diabetic this needs to be monitored.

But even with the things I mentioned above, you still, overall, need to watch your caloric intake as anything you eat eventually gets converted to fat stores in your body.

Therefore, it comes down to your overall consumption of food.

The way you should be viewing any macro is of course what each macro itself does for the body, which is many different things.

Protein and carbs do much more than just recovery and protein synthesis.

It helps with boosting your immune system, works with certain cells in the body by coating them for protection, and more.

The main point to understand is that whatever you eat eventually gets converted to fat.

Thermogenesis of course plays a role in the body as well but ultimately after the body uses what each macro is intended to do, the calories become stored as fat.

Carbs play a vital role in the body and while you can do a keto diet if you like, don’t jump on that bandwagon just thinking it’s the only or the best way to lose weight.

Any diet works. And eating better with a nutritional value is the best in my opinion.

But having said that I know people personally who have done it which is fine because they legitimately live a lifestyle around keto.

Just to plant the idea that you can’t lose weight if you eat carbohydrates because they are somehow the enemy of you losing weight is far from the truth.

So don’t just turn down carbs because you think they cause you to become fat.

Becoming fat or gaining weight is derived from the factor of how many total calories you intake.

Carbs aren’t the enemy; the total caloric intake is.
